Avatars that are synthetic in almost every way. They are AI controlled, and offer various capabilities. Here are some of the byproducts of that testing:</span></p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">This is a Text2Speach applied to a still image generated out of Midjourney. It can take any audio file and will animate lipsync, and apply some synthetic expression. It's extremely limited in movement, but it only took 20 minutes to create. I think as a chatbot or web-avatar there is an appeal to this very uncanny and synthetic approach. It's creepy, but in a neat way!? </span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='682' height='568' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dwfR9J3997qBbKUE2HamJU4dW_34h1YqQiJibKTUMD6vwHN4Y3oba4Wbd-Hl99iowC5NlOFW21DLyNs10PelA' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><span style="text-align: left;">This is a test I did awhile back with very similar tech. Wav2Lip offers the ability to change what someone is saying on an exsiting video. Not many frills, and the output quality needs some refinement after the generation. But, it's just an impressive demo none-the-less.</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='677' height='563' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dwNTtRRkLrts2CDe9ZxIp0YatuPS6CMopUrsu0PQoRu4OEaPLT7JwvjXg_n4jnUPX-V7ZXMjFltOiPV9o8HUQ' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Finally, this one I'm very excited about. <a href="http://Motorica.ai">Motorica.ai</a> is a platform that generates AI motion for your humans with very little effort. I think of it like mocap-without-the-mocap. I was very easily able to just move my little guy around here, process it in moments, and get back a fully animated character.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;">There are options for 'attitude', things like 'soldier', 'schoolgirl'..etc. Also, the developers are open to you supplying your own dataset if you wanted a branded or bespoke motion.</span></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='711' height='591' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dxh09iaPo4g_mYEjdFRJYl5KN542NS0KoB35hKmSUrE3Yaqo6B2gc6imIBPP--l_7n41d-S-7sS6x5-w3iodw' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;">I think what is excitng is being able to generate custom (human) animation based on need to apply to a Motion Matching setup for games, or interactive characters. This demonstrates one done in UE. The only other one i've ever seen this impressive was done by Ubisoft like 6 years ago. Just incredible.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;">
<iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/xG4w1MN6VR0?si=JXQuoltzOaJyaaWK" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;">I'm all over the place these days with the speed in which AI is developing. Generative AI for video and VFX, AI for chatbots and synthetic animation, and everything in between. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;">I am having a blast trying to keep up with all the advancements, and even more excited at trying to wrangle these into capabilities for storytelling, interactive projects, and automated avatars! Not to mention all the VFX effeciences for workflows. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"> </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Exciting times.</span></div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span><p><br /></p>j.dateshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06848935499033606671noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5152504994249604719.post-9019849729043968712024-01-22T11:10:00.000-08:002024-01-22T11:14:50.078-08:00My Realtime-Puppet Setup is Reborn!<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6Xy1PpI6SzkIwoy33_0etTA76r6e87P9xsBQ7Ae2sW9f_zzlYTwy9yDdhROfjuaXs0_bo7BF8og7YezrZ3lzMXp__8UXMwyyog4tbRS_dK732Z2eTegnoWtM3TEiha5nblinmi9DD5IWXq9T4sYePcwPDIQkb0XUaRzRvU9xvmLNHl5k-2lqoPxPrn6s/s2005/Screenshot%202024-01-22%20141100.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1141" data-original-width="2005" height="364" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6Xy1PpI6SzkIwoy33_0etTA76r6e87P9xsBQ7Ae2sW9f_zzlYTwy9yDdhROfjuaXs0_bo7BF8og7YezrZ3lzMXp__8UXMwyyog4tbRS_dK732Z2eTegnoWtM3TEiha5nblinmi9DD5IWXq9T4sYePcwPDIQkb0XUaRzRvU9xvmLNHl5k-2lqoPxPrn6s/w640-h364/Screenshot%202024-01-22%20141100.png" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">For the last few years I've been wanting to get into Unreal's Blueprints indepth enough to build my own 'puppet' animation system. I've always had a team of Technical Artists building the system in the earlier iterations, so I never had to get in and learn the specifics of Blueprint programming myself.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Well, that's changed! I set out to learn what I needed to build a home setup that'll allow me to take any CG character and control them in realtime as you would a vTuber! </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">So here is version 1! It uses an iPhone to control the facial tracking and animation, and the Leap Motion to control the arms and fingers. It's pretty basic setup, but for me it's an acomplishment that has taught me the ins and outs of basic Blueprint programming. Neat! </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">So I hope to be creating animated content with this setup in the weeks to come. Stay tuned.</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='675' height='562' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyggoLVZOh3OtkMXA3imzcNKdPn-2j2elX_hQr-gA3qMH1N6-wz0GmP5HZRXobJV3dlNQNzrftur4xYQGjkFA' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><br /><p><br /></p>j.dateshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06848935499033606671noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5152504994249604719.post-27996343002602868252024-01-03T16:30:00.000-08:002024-01-03T16:32:53.573-08:00New Year, Same BS<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijutch3YVL-LZQtYdQ8qYazgC_c5RDuCsHRxIAGxImOLQ9RINQQpSKbPHNXvSgBri31vMrXVnJ0KoC6lpm36Rs4NFMEgruzrJT5wU7P90l-5SqygOmGwFzNegdDpsDHmcYVC_kQSh0Nsuf817vvAhvkwnGIB5Wk5CiptzOsTzx5PbvD7UDuiAx-v1VnXU/s1624/Screenshot%202024-01-03%20193136.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="918" data-original-width="1624" height="362" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijutch3YVL-LZQtYdQ8qYazgC_c5RDuCsHRxIAGxImOLQ9RINQQpSKbPHNXvSgBri31vMrXVnJ0KoC6lpm36Rs4NFMEgruzrJT5wU7P90l-5SqygOmGwFzNegdDpsDHmcYVC_kQSh0Nsuf817vvAhvkwnGIB5Wk5CiptzOsTzx5PbvD7UDuiAx-v1VnXU/w640-h362/Screenshot%202024-01-03%20193136.png" width="640" /></a></div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></p>Happy New Year! I've created worlds with Midjourney, Dalle, Stable Diffusion, and anything else I could get my hands on. </span><div><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;">However, recently I was accepted into the <a href="https://runwayml.com/">RunwayML</a> Gen-2 beta which is a Midjourney style ( discord interface ) prompt-to-video system. It's really exciting to get into and play around, but I tell you it's near impossible to control or get anything that doesn't look contorted and warped. Artifacts of the current iterations of the medium. If early Midjourney had distorted hands.. Gen2 turns that distortion to 11! LOL.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;">Regardless, I love it. I am embracing the artifacts, as I did in the early days of Disco Diffusion and Midjourney. I'm using them as trademarks to the style. It's still very challenging to control composition, cameras, or pretty much anything currently. But with patience and LOTS of iterations you can eek out some useable synthesized footage.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;">To that, my first serious swing at it yielded these two sequences.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;">The Hitman</span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div>
<iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Bd4-799wMWA" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe>
<div><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;">and Invasion!</span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div>
<iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/H5NCEGLOS28" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe>
<div><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;">Both were created one shot at time using nothing by text prompts describing the scene, the performance, the camera, and the Noir or retro Sci-Fi style I wanted to capture. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;">Although these are raw, they are unmistakably unique in their synthesis. Kind of like a feeling of these styles, while being uncanny in everyway. I love them!!</span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;">This is already impressive to me at this stage how far it's come, and I know it'll improve greatly in the coming months. Stay tuned!</span></div><div><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span></div>j.dateshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06848935499033606671noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5152504994249604719.post-26129596054444648562023-03-10T06:56:00.002-08:002024-01-22T13:36:13.825-08:00We Were Emergencies ( AI Short Film )<p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">For almost a year now I've been playing with various applications of Image Synthesizing workflows. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">At the start of 2023, I wanted to create something positive and encouraging. So I thought what a great opportunity to combine the two? That's where this idea originated from.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The process was something like this:</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">I reached out and reconnected with a friend I've known for a long long time who is a successful spoken word poet. <a href="https://www.buddywakefield.com/" target="_blank">Buddy Wakefield</a>. Told him my plan, and asked if he had any inspiring work that I could build visuals to. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">"We Were Emergencies" is part of a longer piece Buddy performs when he tours, and I thought it was great for what I had planned.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">So first, I feed Buddy's audio performance into "<a href="https://colab.research.google.com/github/dmarx/video-killed-the-radio-star/blob/main/Video_Killed_The_Radio_Star_Defusion.ipynb#scrollTo=4AgMgvYusAo4">Video Killed the Radio Star</a>" Colab, which uses A.I. to parse out lines from audio with a 'whisper' model and then uses each line as a prompt for a frame. Then it takes those frames and builds and edit to the audio in sort of a 'board-o-matic'. The output styleframes can be seen here: </span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1QfozjimmNCQcFQw6MKrBeW0QRqQg__d0YzlaKLEAmkOm4ByIU7UANHGVwt6Eu85r_0IJQe7rkp-O12aNlvRMXs38zkgUoDM9J3xp_uvqKle1iH-4flqirSfqPjKcI66N-F04y9XRF1mNC9T1UHnpTVZVC1OtrB2nuKCUba_3aHv0VDevvfjvD8fr/s2517/Screenshot%202023-03-10%20094037.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1216" data-original-width="2517" height="310" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1QfozjimmNCQcFQw6MKrBeW0QRqQg__d0YzlaKLEAmkOm4ByIU7UANHGVwt6Eu85r_0IJQe7rkp-O12aNlvRMXs38zkgUoDM9J3xp_uvqKle1iH-4flqirSfqPjKcI66N-F04y9XRF1mNC9T1UHnpTVZVC1OtrB2nuKCUba_3aHv0VDevvfjvD8fr/w640-h310/Screenshot%202023-03-10%20094037.png" width="640" /></span></a></div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Once I had an edit, and the synthesized styleframes I went to work building out cameras for each shot. Some were very simple pans and dolly moves, others I built out in Maya, or motion captured from my phone. All fed into the Stable Diffusion variant '<a href="https://colab.research.google.com/github/deforum-art/deforum-stable-diffusion/blob/main/Deforum_Stable_Diffusion.ipynb#scrollTo=XQGeqaGAWM_v">Deforum Diffusion</a>'. Each sequence was processed and rendered out, to give me the final resulting video: </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">'We Were Emergencies"</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Unfortunately, all my attempts didn't work. I can do it exclusively in Maya, but the round trip back into Unreal isn't supported. Until Epic offer us a way to do it more easily, I'm afraid we are limited to taking MH meshes and wrapping them to new base meshes. This will work for most humanoid faces. However, very stylized or non-human faces will just be limited. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">So for now, I used the MH rig to build a bunch of blendshapes for Dead Bob, and just wired them up to ARKit + LiveLink so I can perform!</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">So now my DIY home VIVE motion capture setup will be turned on this summer after my move to a bigger space. Until then I plan to keep playing with Meta-Bob and see what else I can do!</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">For now here is a silly ROM I did. I'll probably clean up some of the UVs around the eyes, and tweak the 'sneer' shapes for the top lips. It's gone through various upgrades, but always maintained the same basic hardware.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Now we're trying out some new DIY mocap solutions here at home to see if I can drive a fully animated character with more control and better performance than previous versions.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The initial testing is really encouraging! I'll hook up the face with ARKit, and work out how the hands/fingers are controlled... most likely Manus Prime 1. <iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='600' height='338' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dwTPuml3fBSpYuTJ13pK-rNwkopnTyeYyeqDodWgJcbE-ppNcewQbmRycmhslbq2hI6sGziKOSkt_XeSrjqlw' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
<div>
Hey ho.. last week Epic released the Live Link Facial app for iphone. So I gave it a whirl. My intial thoughts are how easy it is to use, and how effective it is even over WiFi!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So I grabbed a Daz model, and gave it a go. Not too bad for a couple hours of work imo.</div>
<div>
I'll keep playing with this. This may offer a solution I was looking for of how to get Virtual Talent into some of my scenes. Just imagine this character driving the car I've been playing with in earlier tests.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'll keep you posted.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Took my infinite road setup, applied some megascan highway textures, and started to block out lighting to help me see what I see. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm operating live here, but just with the mouse and keyboard. All my fancy input devices are locked up at the office. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The next step is to source a high-quality muscle car model, and get it into Unreal, and spin the tires based on the speed of the road. I need some taillights, and running lights.</div>

Starting to block out the scene.. I'll be swapping out this placeholder car with a camera-ready asset soon. Also the landscape is in progress...
